Modern Arts in China
_ China's education system lacks theoretical understanding, and has made understanding Modern Art much more difficult. Because of China's strict censorship laws, many works are sold privately and displayed in galleries outside of the country.
"The art falls roughly into two categories: a celebration of the individual over the collective experience, and the adaptation of traditional methods and forms into entirely new objects. Today's art is built on top of a turbulent history, affected largely by the rise of Communism in the 20th century."--Quote: CS Monitor
While China itself may feel bitterly about the contemporary art, the world begs to differ. Instead of being hung in museums, the modern Chinese masterpieces of this era were, and still are, being sold in international auction houses where westerners and other foreigners fought tooth and nail to get their hands on works created by a whole new generation of artistic masterminds. China is finally taking notice of these incredible works. In fact, Shanghai (a place known for the amazing artists that live there) is starting to recognize the talents of these contemporary artists. Art collectors from China, especially the newer ones, are starting their own Chinese Modern Arts collections.
China's Modern Artists still play with traditional Chinese artistic themes. One of these Artists, Zao Wou-ki, has brought his oriental heritage into his art work, but with a contemporary flair. His works have gained the interest of many art collectors, Chinese and foreign. Zao's ink paintings are a nod to the traditional, yet his style is anything but oriental.
This era is full of amazing artists, each putting their own spin in their mediums. The conflict between China's government as it's Contemporary Arts Scene is strong, but that isn't enough to keep this powerful and colorful generation down. Prices are skyrocketing, and with the extra cash in these genius' pockets, we can be sure that more master pieces are coming our way.
